Imagining a city: Paris

Growing up in the city of Dearborn all my life has gotten to be pretty dull. I've traveled to many places in the United States and out of the country also. Just like everything in life, I've always wanted to see something more, and better. There is a list of places I can name of where I want to visit in my lifetime. Some, more than others. I have experienced some of my funnest memories on vacations, which is a reason why i absolutely love to travel. Spontaneous trips are always my most favorite.

If I could spend a week in any city in the world I would choose Paris. It always has had that ideal look to me. Its a place where I tell myself I must visit before I die. I know many people who have visited there and it only makes me want to go there one hundred times more! What attracts me the most to this city is the Eiffel tower and the Locks of Love on Paris bridges. I also would love to just go shopping there and get a sense of other types of fashion. It seems like such an exciting city to visit and I know I’ll have a great time. From what I know, there really aren’t any concerns about this country except human trafficking. My negative ideas like trafficking come from movies about traveling overseas and also the news. An example is the movie Taken. Positive ideas about Paris came from images I’ve seen on different types of social media. Also many movies show the Eiffel tower all lit up in the night sky and its always fascinated me. Hopefully one day in the near future I will visit there.

Interviewing a fried from Detroit

I interviewed a friend named Domo who lives in the southwest part of Detroit. Domo's views differed from mine because he has that violent look on Detroit and see's it as a dangerous city if you don’t know the people who are around you. Domo knows most people in the city and says that’s the only reason he knows he is safe. When he first moved to Detroit he really didn’t know anyone and had a rough time. He was mugged a few times and got into some rough arguments with people who lived around him. Domo also told me how there are many homeless people on the streets who are always asking for money. He said it’s a city that should be demolished and re built.

One of the most important things I learned from this interview was that we shouldn’t run quickly to judge something until we learn about all aspects of it. Also that Detroit may be a fun beautiful place downtown but when you really hit the city streets where people actually live, it may not be as safe as we think. Peoples views on the city are all different depending on where you live and what parts of the city you actually go to.

Questions that arose from this interview are that if we had enough money to rebuild the city of Detroit would it really change people’s violent behavior?
What makes Detroit the home to many homeless people?

Images of Detroit: A different perspective

Sukina Bazzi

When people think of Detroit there are so many images people portray of how the city is.   When most people talk about Detroit they think of big city, violence, and trouble.  Those people are outsiders.  On the other hand, when you get an insight from people who practically live there or around there like me for instance, it’s a whole different story.
Detroit isn’t the dangerous city everyone thinks it is.  People tend to forget about its beauty and fun.  The city of Detroit has several types of amazing restaurants for all your cravings.  From savory to sweet you can go to and of their Greek restaurants or even to some of their sweet shops like Good Girls Go to Paris.
Most people think of Detroit as an unsafe place to even walk around.  When really the city is defiantly the place to go when you just want to enjoy a nice walk in the city with beautiful views.  There are so many shops and things to do and enjoy, you’ll never get bored.  When you see movies in the city of Detroit it shows gangs and violenceI’ve been living outside of Detroit all my life, and have never witnessed a gang before.
My experience living in the Detroit metro area has been a really fun oneI love to go out to eat and try new things and being here in Detroit I always have so many options.  There are also so many theatres downtown with musical productions that are just wonderful.  There is the Red Wings, Tigers, and Lions stadium to go watch a game with some friends.
Detroit really is a safe and beautiful city.  Just like they say don’t judge a book by its cover, which really goes for Detroit.  Movies, images, and all types of those things give off such a harsh idea of what the city is like, when its really not.  Personally, along with many others, its just another regular city, with just more fun and action!
